Anish : They do vocational training, conduct education programs etc . There are four components:
Suhasini shishu nikatan
Home nurse training centers
Sewing training center
Free clinic and old age home
|Suhasini shishu nikatan|
Anish: beside just classroom education till 4th standard, they also run workshops for education on mental health issues to the children, parents and the teachers, this organized by training psychologists. Has been a very successful program
Arka : Are the pics you’re showing are of the parent? Fathers and mother?
Anish : The mothers are usually more involved, the parents are given incentive to send their children here by making the school free
Anusha: Is it a surprise visit?
Anish : No, it was planned about a month ahead
Anish: They are looking at after school program for kids. After 4th the quality of education is not that great in the neighborhood, and kids are dropping out, so Kaylania are offering an after schhool program to help kids stay in school..currently for 10-12 girls from all classes, it is not free
Home nursing program:
|Anish: They were trying to get certification from Kaylani university. But due to change of the VC at the university, this plan fell through.|
Anish: They have a 6 month support program, where the members stitch clothes for SSN, or kalyania will act as the gurantor to help them get their own equipment and third is to get them in touch with the local tailors.
Anish: This year there were more young teachers than before. Previously it was concerning that the teachers were mostly the older teachers
Why was it concerning?
It pertains to sustainability of the program
How many teachers are there?
By previous report there were 11 paid teachers, 1 volunteer teachers
Can we get the updated numbers ?
What is your sense of their plan for future sustainability
We did discuss this, they are looking at corpus funds, basically big lump sum donations that they can invest in corpus funds and conduct their yearly initiatives on the interest received.
What would be the corpus fund requirement
I can find out
We should look at sustainability of the projects because this would be aplicable for future years since the central funds are drying up
Going to the budget . THey have added the classroom education program, their budget has increased to :
Why is it Kalyania having excesses year after year, while other projects in Asha projects do not have the same issues
I will have to ask them about this
How the nurse training, do they have a constant number of people enrolled or is it a projected number
It is not projected from my information
But this would be the new nurses right?
True we can clarify this
|2.||Nishtha Night Shelter|
Operates a shelter for children of sex workers. Two of the kids from this shelter were sent to nursing school nearby and now they have become nurses at government hospitals. We went there at dusk and there were about two rooms with beds, the children were grouped into rooms by their age. Students from class 1 and class 8 were staying at the shelter. The cost of food was reduced from previous budget which we clarified with them and they said that they would adjust the budget. There was also the issue that kids had to be sent back to mother in the night as per government regulation.
Padmanava and I had email/phone conversations with Meena di about possibly sending the older kids to residential schools and counselling for the mothers to allow them to go there. Meena di said that in general Govt. started enforcing strict rules against shelters and homes as there were cases where children were being trafficked from these shelters. In order to send Nishtha children to residential homes, most children are below the age limit and also those residential schools are very far away. She asked for some time to let Nishtha figure things out. About the case that the mothers are generally intoxicated and this would not be good for the kids, Nishtha makes sure that the mothers are not intoxicated before sending the kids back to them for the night.
Coming to the budget, it is pretty much the same last year, they have reduced the number of some of the line items so the budget for this year us 374500 INR
